Leading a healthy lifestyle is one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make in your life. Most people on this journey got on this path out of necessity. Some want to become healthy due to a health scare. Others do it to achieve their desired body weight. And then there are those that do it out of curiosity, to find out what all the hype is about! Whatever the motivation, the benefits of being on this path to health & wellbeing are endless, and above all, life-changing.

If you’re new to Outfit, welcome!

Outfit Namibia is a unique and purpose-driven health & fitness brand since 2011. People from all walks of life have come to Outfit to better their lives through fitness and to learn healthy habits that last a lifetime. Our brand is synonymous with outdoor training, superfoods, a healthy lifestyle, and the result’s driven coaching.

Our training is held outdoors in nature, or as we like to refer to it, our “playground”. Using your own body weight and with minimal equipment, Outfit training focuses on building core strength and a full-body workout, training at your own pace, under the guidance of a professional fitness coach.

Your wellbeing is important to us and for that reason, many of our clients turn to us for lifestyle advice. From questions around what to eat, whether to supplement or not, we will try and condense our healthy lifestyle philosophy in a short and succinct guideline here:

Listen to Your Body

We don’t believe in providing clients with a specific diet plan. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to your nutritional needs. We are all unique beings, with very different dietary needs. The best dietary advice is to listen to your body. Pay attention to how food makes you feel. That awareness will help you make food choices that are aligned with your wellbeing. Start with a food journal and take it from there.

Crowd out the Bad, to Make Way for the Good

Nourishing your body should never be about deprivation. We’re not here to be the food police and to tell you what you should and shouldn’t eat, to maintain your new body weight, or to build more muscle. Food is about nourishment and wellbeing. It’s a joyful experience if you let it be. Rather than depriving yourself of chocolate, eat what you want, but make way for healthier food choices. Crowd out unhealthy foods by introducing healthy food alternatives. It can be as simple as ditching the chips for a salad/grilled vegetables or snacking on high energy snacks, instead of devouring a chocolate cake at 3pm.

Preparation is Key

Just as you put time aside to exercise, so too do you need to plan your meals in advance. Your food choices are often automatic and you will gravitate to what is convenient and familiar. Fast Food options are available in a heartbeat and yet for anyone serious about changing their lifestyle, it’s important to shop in advance and have a food plan. Learn what works for you, whether it’s pre-made meals or just simple dishes to fix up in a heartbeat. Take the guesswork out of your diet, by making sure you prepare in advance. This will eliminate any excuses you may have to eat unhealthily.

Cut Out Sugar

One of the most transformative healthy lifestyle habits you can implement today is cutting out sugar. Sugar is linked to so many lifestyle diseases from diabetes, obesity, and heart disease, the consumption of sugar is literally killing us. Simply becoming aware of how much sugar you consume, will already assist you in kicking this energy-draining habit. From eliminating sweets from your diet to becoming aware of the store products that contain sugar, there are many ways to cut your daily intake of sugar.

Drink Your Way to Health

Outfit Namibia pioneered Superfoods in Namibia’s fitness community and so it’s no surprise that we are pro juicing and pro smoothies, especially when adding Superfoods like Chia Seeds, Maca and Spirulina to the recipe! The most important elixir of life, however, is WATER! Pure, filtered or mineral water is vital to your wellbeing, as up to 70% of your body is made up of water. We need water to flush out toxins, regenerate organs, delivers nutrients to the brain, hydrate our skin, and help us with just about every function in the body. Living in Namibia, it’s essential that we hydrate our bodies and our minds with water.

Supplements

The health benefits of supplementation have mixed reviews. The supplementation industry is a multi-billion dollar industry offering products that claim to have extensive health benefits that are often ineffective and sometimes even harmful. It is best to consult your healthcare practitioner before starting supplementation. Our stance on this? A supplement can never be a substitute for a healthy diet. If you eat a varied and wholesome diet, your food becomes the fuel your body needs to maintain its wellbeing. No pills required.

Your Healthy Rewards Initiative

How do you make these healthy habits stick? Changing a habit is hard work. Leading a healthy lifestyle will not occur overnight. It takes a lot of consistency and dedication at first. Start small, set yourself realistic goals, and reward yourself for sticking with your new-found habits. But whatever you do, don’t use food & drinks as a reward. Clients often make the mistake of training hard, eating a well-balanced diet during the week, and then throwing it out on the curb over weekends, where excessive drinking and indulging is the order of the day! Healthy habits should be celebrated with a self-care activity that is inspired by your new lifestyle, like spending time outdoors with family or taking a nap during the day.

Now that you are equipped with the skills to change your eating habits, we know that you’ll not only enjoy your journey to becoming fit and healthy but that it will also change how you show up in the world. We can’t wait to see you thrive!
